Haiku
Children throw balloons
On a peach blossom lawn;
Their smiles laugh together.
Haiku
You are the scent
Of trodden grass,
Watching a butterfly
In the wind.
Worship
Oh gods, come forth this day.
Let me render her body anew
With a thousand petalled kisses.
Let me hold her hand in mine
That we may keep our bodies true.
This jewel that is the trees and the rain
And the sea and the sky,
Let me worship at her feet
With the incense of Eastern brides.
Let her river run through me,
That I may be hers again.
Bad Boy
Bad boy.
He’s killing himself reaching for the stars.
Boiling datura on the top of the stove.
Look how strong.
It’s a dare, inpressing friends, being a man,
The chaff of the crop,
To spend three days not knowing what’s real,
Or where you are, or what you feel.
It didn’t impress the cops
Who picked him up off the street
In Grey Lynn.
Then drove him home in their car.
But it impressed his girl enough to
Call it quits.
It was the end.
He swore to himself not to take it again.
Does he know what’s real now?
Managing mind one illusion at a time?
Nirvana – the final blowing out.
It’s so hard in the half light to know
That everything‘s a nightmare.
Please don’t make it so.
This dream’s the one, the only real thing.
Until it’s torn away clutching its claws
Around his heart, tearing everything.
But now he knows he’s stoned
Without hooch or ecstacy or coke.
He’s going home,
All sins atoned – free.

Only You
You said that I was your friend,
You said our friendship would never end.
You took my verse from me,
I sang you harmonies.
But you replaced them with your rhymes.
Different people. Different times.
I can’t fall in love with you.
I can’t fall in love with you.
You play your music from far away.
And leave me for another day.
I’m left longing for you,
Only you.
And I turn and look in your eyes.
I can’t say goodbye
Like I want to.
Dream of You
I woke up, the day your brother left,
From my dreams of you.
I wished I could go back there.
I Closed my eyes tight
With all the grief I had
To capture one more kiss,
One more touch,
One more melting together.
Just once more,
Let me know you
Again.
But night after night
Sleep betrayed me,
Stole you.
And each morning
You vanished with him,
Your twin,
Into the light of day.
